SESCO (Saudi Electric Supply Company) is a Tamimi
owned and General Electric managed company that has been operating
in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for more than 25 years.
The traditional SESCO product focus had been electrical,
offering its vast developing market a range of products from cable
trays and switchgear to power distribution and transformers.
But in 1997, SESCO established a new division
to service the Kingdom's valve and instrumentation market. An initial
priority was to identify the best instrumentation products from
a quality manufacturer to ensure their own continued reputation.
In their first nine months of operation, SESCO
convinced Hoke that they were the right partner to take the Hoke
range to Saudi Arabia's demanding end-users.
A Hoke product specialist, Krishna Kumar, was
appointed and trained up immediately to set about increasing Hoke's
installed base in the Kingdom, with initial favorable success.
Sales could have been a lot stronger had
it not been for the low oil prices which fell dramatically at the
time of committing to Hoke, says David Birks, Divisional Manager.
The only projects that really stayed on
track were for power and water utilities, he adds, so
this is where we focussed our initial efforts.
Now that the oil price is strong, projects are
picking up pace again.
While many Gulf companies downsized, SESCO maintained
its push to gain product approvals, increase sales and expand its
overall product offering.
Our strategy paid off, David says
proudly. We continued to gain Hoke product approval and registration
in a weak market. Now that demand is picking up again, we expect
to see increasing sales growth.
Combining this with their increased sales opportunities
in the Circle Seal Controls and GO Regulator lines, SESCO is well
set to achieve some impressive market shares in this significant
arena.
SESCO also attribute some of their success to
the strong field support that they receive from Hoke.

With Hoke's Business Development Manager visiting
the Kingdom every two months or so, explains David, we can
focus on end-user workshops and product seminars. These visits also
provide SESCO sales engineers with product training updates and
refreshers.
Many of the Kingdom's major end-users have been
targeted for Hoke product approval and registration during the past
two years.
SESCO has also picked up relationships with other
Circor companies. In fact, some significant sales successes have
already been achieved with KF Ball Valves and Watts Ball & Butterfly
Valves (now known as Contromatics).
So, with the strong alliance established between
distributor and Hoke, the future is looking very bright for both
in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as it is with Circor distributors
in so many other parts of the world. |
