Charnwood Truck Services was able to reduce initial and on-going costs in converting diesel trucks to run on compressed
natural gas by using Hoke instrumentation fittings and valves which were able to meet the company’s total quality management
whilst being competitively priced.
The high pressure valves and fittings from CIRCOR chosen for the vehicle fuel supply system included 316 stainless steel
Gyrolok twin ferrule tube fittings, Flowmite 7100 series ball valves, CVH series check valves and 6600 series bleed valves.
Charnwood is a Foden truck dealership and develops dual fuel diesel and natural gas engine conversions for heavy haulage trucks
on-site in Nottingham. The CNG is stored on the vehicle at 3,600 psi and the Hoke products are used for the tubing system between
the gas storage tank and the engine.
Running on CNG can significantly reduce operating costs of fleet operated vehicles, and as well as reducing costs, the standard
Hoke products meet the ECE R110 Regulation to which the trucks are built and a Charnwood vehicle applications manager also reports
having gained environmental benefits. "We are pleased with the system," he added, "and no problems were encountered during installation."
