Tube fittings and valves are the best blend for seawater analysis

CIRCOR’s Gyrolok® tube fittings and Hoke ball and needle valves in a special combination of Monel and stainless steel were selected by Anatrol for its seawater analysis system built for KBR/SMOE Singapore to achieve the required blend of corrosion resistance, reliability and economy.

Seawater injected into ailing oil wells must be treated and analysed to ensure suitability. Monel 400 was required since seawater above 50°C attacks stainless steel 316 grade, but to avoid high costs a compromise was achieved in collaboration with CIRCOR.

Monel was used for the first stages and 316 stainless steel for the latter stages. This allowed the seawater to cool to the ambient temperature in the laboratory where the system was to be installed.

The seawater also must be de-aerated, chlorinated and free from particulates, and checked to ensure it suits injection into the wells under high pressure. The need for very low dissolved oxygen levels is confirmed with a suitable oxygen analyser and analysers also verify chlorination, bromine levels and turbidity.

Leading specialist in petrochemical/chemical analyser systems since 1987, Anatrol of Malpas, Cheshire has built five systems similar to this latest project, installed from places such as Norway to Azerbaijan.
