CIRCOR instrument fittings and valves helped meet a demanding challenge
in the North Sea, with the end-client’s demand for an extended system
life span, by being selected as key components in an air starting system.
IPU Group
Starting Division supplies a comprehensive range of non-electric starters
for some of the harshest environments around the world and recently produced
a system to start a diesel 3612 CAT engine delivering essential power
to the Kristin North Sea platform off the coast of Norway for Geveke Oil
& Gas.
Statoil,
the platform owners, determined that the whole project should have a minimum
life span of 25 years, which created significant challenges in design
and sourcing of materials and external suppliers.
IPU’s
solution included a complete system which was fully assembled and ready
to use. All pipe work was fully welded to ASME IX and was in 2in stainless
steel with instrument fittings and valves supplied by CIRCOR Instrumentation.
The system
comprised two 500 litre air receivers designed to ASME, U stamped and
hot dipped galvanized to provide the required corrosion resistance, and
a stainless steel electric control panel. The compressor has a 30 bar
outlet pressure and 16.5m3/hr delivery to fill each receiver in less than
an hour.
